Did a tornado come down briefly in the town of Ava in northern Oneida County just west of Boonville and north of Utica/Rome last evening? It is looking like we may have one! At least from the evidence that we have to this point.

As usual, the team of NewsChannel 2 Meteorologists, of which I was so thankful to be a part of from 1996-2005, was right on top of this mess! And it looks like they had it. A brief touchdown with damage. These areas are in northern Oneida County with some elevation to them and are in areas close to major snowmobile trails. We have no idea what if any snowmobile trails go hit, if any. I can assure you that IF any trails DID get hit, crews would be out to clear up them trails in plenty of time before the season. Which we are still a long way off of.
For today fog is giving way to sunshine. Temperatures are climbing to near 80 degrees this afternoon. Enjoy that if you like temperatures that warm. After today, for the next week, we will not be getting back to that number.
Rain showers come on in tonight and especially tomorrow. With the clouds and showers around, don’t expect temperatures to climb much above 60 tomorrow, especially in the North Country. A return to sunshine on Sunday will make a better second half of the weekend. Still temperatures will be hard pressed to get out of the 60s in most spots.
After Monday, middle of next week, the chances of temperatures meeting or exceeding 70, especially in the lower elevations, is much more likely. It looks like most of the below normal weather will be tomorrow through Tuesday.
Longer term looking at normal. If anything, starting to tinker with going above normal in the middle of September and beyond. Not 100% on this yet. Just letting you know though.
Also letting you know Snow Bash setup is one week from tomorrow on 9/13 starting at 9 AM. Also Friday afternoon 9/19 as teams arrive from all over the Northeast and Southeast Canada. Then cleanup day on Monday 9/22. That’s before we talk about Big East!
OK. I will mention it because I had not the last few times. Jump on in and support Upstate Snow this year! For $15 at a minimum, what are you thinking? That’s a meal at Chili’s!
