It’s Black Friday and it’s an UPSTATE SNOW ALERT DAY! We have significant lake effect snows hitting many areas of the state RIGHT NOW! This will continue for the next 24 to 30 hours. At the peak of these bands, expect 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour. In the most intense bands today off of Lake Erie, and today through tomorrow morning through Central NY, you can see what I am going with. These are snows from as of this writing (7 AM Friday 11.28) through 1 PM tomorrow which I will consider to be THE END.

Here is a look at how things are going at sunrise this morning. These shots from SkyCams across the state were taken between 645 AM and 7 AM this morning:

Judging by the amounts of snow that are on the ground in many areas, it looks like the worst places hit so far got around 6 to 12 inches. I know Tupper Lake got 9 inches for sure as of last night, with 6 inches in Jamestown also as of last night. Some spots got more than others. Here is what I am looking at now:

This is the main line coming on in. This is what will get the radar and play the long game. I have had to extend the accumulations into western New England. At least the Trace to 2″ kind. The heavier amounts I have to pop in. No longer can I live with 4-8. Not with 10 to 18 bearing down in the heaviest bands. So we shall see what we get out of this.

SUNDAY
Sunday SUNDAY! That’s our NEXT storm. This one is totally different. This one has a SW flow to it, so this is a warm air advection deal. This starts as a dusting to 2″ of snow. Then goes to a mix from down low then goes higher up. It’s rain everywhere by Sunday evening then this system is out of here.

MONDAY
This day is fine. But look out below. To the south and west a bigger storm is approaching. We are on the cold side of the storm this time. We still don’t know exactly who will get what and for how long but:

TUESDAY
This is the day to watch out for. Especially Tuesday Night. Someone in Upstate NY will get hit big. Did I say you? Maybe? Maybe not? I just can’t tell yet as the models have been constantly shifting the last several days on this.

EXTENDED
It stays cold. And stormy. And snowy. And wow holy cow what did you do to the weather here in Upstate NY sir? Can we ask you to do this again? Yes. Average of the highs and lows in the 30s in December for so long: Make them the 20s. Or the teens. It’s a whole new ballgame.
