The Morning Blog 01.08.26

The Morning Blog is brought to you by the Trailbusters Snowmobile Club of Lee Center, NY located in Northern Oneida County. Their mission is to link the critical to maintaining their 38 miles of trails, without which, connections between the Tug Hill and the Central New York region would not be possible. Also, BREAKING NEWS! The Schoff family has just announced the John Schoff Polaris Ride has just been rescheduled to NEXT SATURDAY 1/17! PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Between us messing this up in our post yesterday plus getting this late breaking news this morning, we decided to do this right away and we will do it again next week! For more information on Lee Center CLICK HERE!

Wow what a start to the morning already. That was not what we had wanted to do. But it is what it is. I wish the LATE BREAKING NEWS had do to with Mother Nature changing her mind and going back from rain and wind to snow and cold in her forecast. But not until Sunday at least. We have significant melting about to happen, especially tomorrow.

Null

40s to near 50 melt snow. Strong winds of 20-40 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH melt it THAT MUCH FASTER. At least that is how we are looking at things as of right now. Just pray we can get through the worst of the wind and the warmth which should be tomorrow.

Saturday we see a break in the action, at least in the morning, but it won’t be for long. Rains will move back into Upstate NY in the afternoon and especially by Saturday Evening.

Sunday we finally see the cold air return, starting in Western NY over the morning then spreading across the rest of the state by midday and into the afternoon. Temperatures will start mild, up near 40, which will continue the melting process, but then as it falls back below freezing, finally the melt off will STOP! At 4 PM as you see on this map, it is all back to snow and typical cold we would see at this time of year.

Next week I would consider to be more of a transition week. It doesn’t get brutally cold next week in the 6-10 day. If anything, another stretch of above normal, just not as much as right now. It takes more like 8-14 days to get the super cold air back into place, as you see on that map. So if you have plans to ride anytime between MLK weekend and President’s Day Weekend, the best part of snowmobile season each year and the years with the most cold and snow guaranteed, it is looking like a two thumbs up kind of deal to that. At least as of right now.
