The Morning Blog 01.15.26-2

The Morning Blog is brought to you by the Winona State Forest Trails of Jefferson and Lewis Counties, NY, on the Northwest flank of the Tug Hill. With over 25 miles of groomed trails to select from, each of them specially groomed and treated, you always get the best conditions possible. For more information on the trails and all of the happenings in this corner of the Tug Hill, CLICK HERE.

The snow is slowly coming in from west to east today. The fact it got hung up just a slight bit overnight led to trails actually getting shut down to the east in some areas, but added to the potential snows this afternoon and tonight across Western NY and Northern NY. The map I had updated with snowfalls through tonight should hold up OK.

So most of this snow above falls this afternoon and tapers off this evening. By 11 PM it is pretty much done over most of Upstate NY. Tomorrow is actually a PARTLY SUNNY DAY! At least the first half of it. Because the next system approaches the area and FAST!

This storm is already producing snow showers with bands of heavier snows near the Great Lakes by 7 PM tomorrow night. That’s not a whole lot of down time.

That snow tapers off by Saturday Morning, however, with so many quick little clippers and systems moving on through, Saturday late afternoon into Saturday Night you get the next little dose.

On MLK Day, more snow showers moving in. Again, nothing to write home about, but enough on here that I wanted to let you know it is going to snow.

By Tuesday more snow showers and lake effect will be in here. Will it be warm? NO!!! If you would like above freezing temperatures head south. WAY SOUTH. Or better off OUT WEST! It will not be anywhere near normal anytime soon around here! With below normal temperatures expected through the rest of the month and into February, expect whatever BLIPS occurred on the first two weeks of January to be OVER and from now on, at least for the next 2-4 weeks, if not the next 6, a very cold, snowy, and winter like beautiful Upstate NY for you to go get our and RIDE! GET OUT AND ENJOY IT!!!

One more thing: Please welcome CHRIS SCHOFF to the Upstate Snow family! We appreciate your donation. Have a great time on the trails and don’t forget about the John Schoff Polaris Ride this Saturday, brought to you by West Rome and Lee Center Snowmobile Clubs!

DOWNLOAD THE 2026 NYSSA SNOWMOBILE INTERACTIVE MAP! It has on it and available which trails are open, closed, and major hazards that are out there, where and when. It is a great gift for you to download to your iPhone or Android TODAY!
