The Morning Blog 01.24.26

The Morning Blog is brought to you by CNY Snow Travelers of Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties in Central NY. With well over 100 miles of trails and several groomers taking care of it around the clock, know this: If there is snow: This is the place to go! For more information CLICK HERE.

Good morning. I am so sorry for this long delay in getting this to you. Because the same winter storm that will dump a foot or more of snow tomorrow and into Monday across a good portion of Upstate NY, is about to dump an ice storm here where we are in South Carolina. For the first time in 21 years.

Null

We are preparing to lose power longer than we did with Hurricane Helene in September 2024. A lot longer. We may get lucky and it could only turn off for a few days. Or we may end up run of the mill and it’s 5-10 days. Or we get unlucky and it’s 10-15 days. Or longer. But this is essentially a guarantee now: we will lose power. And for a long while. We anticipate by tomorrow night a total blackout over the Upstate of South Carolina. Or close to it. We hate to write about this, and to you folks in Upstate NY, wondering what the heck we are talking about, but this is a generational storm. Southern style.

Back to the north and the same storm that will HIT YOU GUYS AS SNOW. EVERYWHERE. It develops around sunrise Sunday morning. Snow spreads from SW to NE across the state during the morning. In the afternoon, the snow is everywhere. And it is coming down heavily at times.

Sunday Night we are continuing with snow, heavy at times. This is especially true of Central NY and points northward. Several inches of snow will have fallen already with several more to go. Even with a lot of the state in 12-18 inches, we are thinking some areas will hit the 20s for accumulations. If anything, we are thinking we are low.

On Monday Morning the worst of the storm is lifting off into New England and Canada and the heaviest snows are leaving Upstate NY. Scattered snow showers will be leftover for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday.

Please stay off of the roads during the Nor’easter Sunday and into Monday. Temperatures will be in the single digits and the teens. Temperatures will not break the teens at any time over the next week. Wind chills will be at or below zero. Actual air temperatures will be near there at night most nights.

Hunker down. Most importantly, pray. Everyone should pray every day. Today especially. And in the coming days.
