And so after the longest riding season in 11 years and one of the best riding seasons in decades, it will finally begin to go away. Soon. The riding season is basically GONE west of Syracuse with the exception of some places near Lake Ontario. But once you hit Western NY that’s a memory. Central and Northern NY still BURIED under FEET of snow. And that will have a jack knife in the forecast in the short term. BUT… eventually… the west wind will win. And when it does, the thermometer soars and the snow melts. Fast! Trust me on that one.

THE FLY IN THE OINTMENT
Tomorrow afternoon and into early Friday’s system. This was originally looking too warm but now from the Utica area and points north and east is looking dicey! Looking like sleet and freezing rain mixing in! Because while all the warm air is riding in over the top of the atmosphere, the colder air near the surface does not get scratched out.

THE WEEKEND
We could be looking at 60s and 70s in Western NY and 30s and 40s in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. Yes that 30 to 40 degree difference is absolutely in the cards. It has happened before. It can happen again. We have to see what God has for us.

EARLY NEXT WEEK?
By next week we anticipate any negative impacts from the warming will be gone and it will just GO WARM everywhere. Temperatures will reach the 50s and 60s early next week. Snow melt will take place WITH AUTHORITY. Even with feet of it on the ground, it will not take long for it it melt down with those temperatures.

BLOWTORCH!
Long enough to where I am not going to have to worry about keeping up this site for the rest of the winter. It has been a long winter. A great winter. But later today I am heading to Tennessee for 4 days with my family. By the time I come back the maps I am sure will look different than today. It will not be the same. Most of you folks whom look to my site will be packed away and prepared for next winter. At least. That is what I am thinking right now.
