THE WARM AIR THAT HAS RULED MOST OF SEPTEMBER IS OVER! NOW THAT IT IS OCTOBER, IT IS TIME TO BRING ON THE FALL FOLIAGE AND BRING ON THE CHANGE OF SEASONS!
This change will be gradual and happen over the rest of this week and into early next week. We will see scattered showers today and tonight with most of them happening tomorrow. Then this weekend actually turns out to be NICE! If you have the opportunity to head to either the Adirondacks and/or the Catskills, THIS IS PEAK WEEKEND. Most of the leaves will be gone after this weekend. Especially with what I will tell you next. Another strong cold front comes racing through late Sunday and into early Monday. Not too many showers with it, but behind this thing is the coldest air since April or May.
If you wanted me to mark dates for “end of growing season” in all but the heartiest locations across Upstate NY, Monday Night the 5th and Tuesday Night the 6th are your target dates. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! This is precisely when the heart of this cold blast comes on through. And look just to the North and East of Upstate NY. Into Quebec. Yep. THE SNOW IS NOT THAT FAR OFF! Does it make it here and now next week? Nope. I am not anticipating it. But I definitely have my eyes on it. The worst of this cold blast looks like Monday the 5th through Wednesday the 7th.
Looking farther ahead, which of course with our models of forecasting becomes more dangerous and such, it continues to look as though the colder trough stays over the Northeast and the Great Lakes while west of the Mississippi stays WARM. If anything along and west of the Rockies, could be looking at near record highs in spots over the next 1-2 weeks. We shall see.
Otherwise, that is what we are seeing now.
