Here We Go 12.26.25

The Morning Blog is brought to you by Cranberry Lake Mountaineers of St. Lawrence County, NY! We have a membership roster of over 400 individuals and families. Our members enjoy some of the least crowded groomed trails in all of New York State. The main corridor Trail 8 runs right through our system with connections to main corridor Trail 7, giving access to the Canadian border and Old Forge/Tug Hill. One final club reminder: Do not ruin the sport for yourself or someone else by being the cause of an accident… no matter the severity. If you cannot ride responsibly, STAY OFF THE TRAILS!

YEP! WE ARE BACK! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Now that the biggest holiday and celebration is over (and some of you are FORCED to go BACK TO WORK TODAY 🙁 oh my ) we have another storm about to hit. It will hit in the coming hours, starting this afternoon and especially tonight. This will be a particularly strong Alberta Clipper system with snow, heavy at times, especially for the Southern Tier (eastern regions of it), Catskills and Hudson Valley. Even parts of the Capital Region may play with this one. Less snow in the Adirondacks and Tug Hill this time and especially north of that. Out in Western NY: DON’T ASK! Here it will be snow then turn into a sleet and freezing rain fest. Yikes!

Null

The snow, heavy at times comes in near sunset and as you see is out of here in less than 12 hours. So even with it snowing at an average of 1/2 inch to 1 inch per hour, that is how we came up with this map above. Saturday turns out to be a nice day with temperatures just a little below normal. On Sunday it turns cloudy again as the next storm approaches. You know how Western NY is getting shafted this time around? Play that same script but much farther to the east this time!

Snow, sleet, freezing rain, to rain, then back to that sleet and freezing rain mix, then back to the snow! You want to see everything in a storm? Late Sunday and though Monday YOU WILL GET EVERYTHING!

Then after that it turns COLD over the eastern US. Like below normal cold east of the Mississippi from Canada to the Gulf. And everywhere in between. What that means for us? A lot more lake effect snow is about to come pouring off of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario next week from Tuesday onward. Several days worth of it at least. That thing as it is drawing closer we will be keeping our eyes on.

DOWNLOAD THE 2025-26 NYSSA SNOWMOBILE INTERACTIVE MAP! It has on it and available which trails are open, closed, and major hazards that are out there, where and when. It is a great gift for you to download to your iPhone or Android TODAY!
