The Morning Blog is brough to you by the Snowdrifters of Stratford, in western Fulton County of the Southern Adirondacks. Located on the edge of the park, this club directly links to Powley Road, the major SW to NE connector between the Mohawk Valley and Hamilton County. In addition they are happy to announce the acquisition of the East Canada Fish & Game Club property of over 20 acres. Both clubs have already held events and will be holding more soon! Since past our clubhouse Daley Road is limited in access, we are planning to open a connecting snowmobile trail to the system as well as looking at other connections in the years to come. THE THAW – PART 2
I told you this would not be good on Wednesday. After we got through all of the warmth and high winds on Friday, just as I figured, everything from the Syracuse area south and west WAS TOAST 🙁

JANUARY 7, 2026 – 7 AM

JANUARY 10, 2026 – 7 AM

You can clearly see what just a few days of warmth and especially wind can do to snow pack. Especially if there is not a lot of it around (less than 10″ worth). In the Utica Rome area and points north to the Tug Hill, Adirondacks and North Country, for now, the next several days, these will be the only places you can escape to. That is assuming we don’t have tree damage after all of the high winds yesterday and last night.

SNOW RETURNS! AT LEAST THE SIGHT OF IT.
It will not be rain later tonight especially north and east of Utica. Snow showers with a wintry mix hanging on in the lower elevations and areas farther south and west where temperatures are expected to stay near or above 32 degrees. This snowfall Sunday afternoon and Sunday Night should lead to this: A minor snowfall at best.

MONDAY SNOWFALL AGAIN
If you miss Sunday’s snow, don’t worry because there is more snow supposed to be coming on Monday. This will also be a light snow, with nothing dramatically heavy. Especially considering this is January. There will be a few more inches, but nothing to write home about.

MID WEEK SNOWS
The next snow arrives in a more potent system starting late Wednesday then going through the day on Thursday. This is the maps for 7 AM Thursday then 1 PM on Thursday. Both maps showing light to moderate snow over much of Central NY and Eastern NY. Not as much into Western NY this time. There will be a decent accumulation map coming on this system, but not today. Not tomorrow or even Monday. Probably this will be a Tuesday thing.

NEXT 8-14 DAYS: COLDER THAN NORMAL
After this early break in January with very warm temperatures in spots, particularly outside of Upstate NY, we are going back to the same winter formula. Warm and dry out west. Cold wet and/or snowy in the east. It all depends exactly where you are and when you are there. But we are just saying: WINTER IS NOT DONE YET! Not by a long shot!
