The Morning Blog 01.21.26

The Morning Blog is brought to you by the Cherry Creek Sno-Goers of Chautauqua County, NY! Located between Buffalo, NY and Erie, PA, this club is responsible for grooming and maintaining over 160 miles of trails! Most of these trails exist on private property and exist because of good relations between the land owners and the clubs. Over 3,400 family memberships in Chautauqua County take care of over 5,000 snowmobilers alone! For more information on this club PLEASE CLICK HERE

If you want to know what has happened with this latest lake effect snow event in the Buffalo and Watertown areas as well as points to the south of them CLICK HERE. Lacona was the winner of the BURY ME contest with 3 1/2 feet! It is beautiful to put out such big forecasts and to see them come through. Makes us feel good today! Guess what? There is more snowfall coming!

Null

This starts in the next few hours, or it’s snowing now, depending on when you are reading this. The snows will be light for the most part, however southerly flow and upslope will add to the amounts shown in the Tug Hill and the Southern Adirondacks mainly. Here we will go for a 4-7 inch fall. Other areas of the state we will go for a 2-4 or our usual trace to 2.

Looking at the maps towards this weekend, it is looking DANG COLD! Not quite record cold, but close enough! Saturday morning many areas will be double digits below zero. If you are planning to ride this weekend BE PREPARE FOR THIS!

Then we look to Sunday. This was something I thought would be sliding to the south, however, it is not looking like it in the last few runs. If anything, it is looking more like a hit for the Southern Tier, Catskills, Hudson Valley and the Capital Region. Central NY and points north and west should see less. Definitely not zero though. I WILL DEFINITELY HAVE AN UPDATE ON TRACKS AND POTENTIAL ACCUMULATIONS (NOT TOMORROW BUT FRIDAY) FOR THIS STORM. DEFINITELY KNOW THAT I AM ON THIS.

It moves out then it stays cold, very cold, through next week with several more arctic blasts loading up and getting ready to come on down. It will be that way through at least the first week of February. For now. So for any of you whom ever complain about the thaws and melting, I am expecting you to be quiet!

DOWNLOAD THE 2026 NYSSA SNOWMOBILE INTERACTIVE MAP! It has on it and available which trails are open, closed, and major hazards that are out there, where and when. It is a great gift for you to download to your iPhone or Android TODAY!
