The Morning Blog 02.02.26

The Morning Blog is brought to you by the SHASTA SNOWMOBILE CLUB of Sherburne, NY, serving Chenango and Madison Counties of Central NY. These clubs are NOT BEING MARKED AS OPEN ON THE NYSSA INTERACTIVE MAP. THEY ARE NOT CLOSED. THE ARE OPEN! ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE SNOW AND COLD THAT HAS BEEN OUT THERE. This organization promotes snowmobiling, safety, trail grooming and maintenance. For more information on the club CLICK HERE.

Well if you were awake at 7:25 AM this morning you were watching to see what Punxsutawney Phil would say. What did you think with how crazily our winter is going so far in the eastern half of the US, particularly the Northeast? I am surprised he didn’t say 6 more WEEKS of WINTER but instead 6 more MONTHS of WINTER BUHAHAHA!

Null

I wonder how that would feel riding on our nation’s 250th Birthday? Oh, NEVERMIND! We can dream on anyway.

For this week, we get a brief break. WE NEED ONE! It hit -17 in Rome this morning, just 3 off of the record low of -20 set in 1961. Good thing the temperatures will climb quickly above zero shortly and be up near 20 this afternoon. Nowhere near as bad tonight. Tomorrow will be the mildest day seen in the last bunch and probably for the next bunch to come, with highs from 25 to 30 degrees. Clouds will be on the increase. Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly cloudy.

Friday is the day for the snow showers and snow squalls. Have no idea on accumulations yet. The European puts out a projection. It is low enough and this audience is good enough with accumulation numbers (at least, I think you are) to where I will put this out for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Days 4, 5, and 6. Slopes with elevations facing north from the St Lawrence Valley through Lake Ontario, CNY, and into WNY south of Buffalo will see the best shot at over 3 inches of snow. Otherwise, that is all for the next week.

CONDITIONS FOR RIDING REMAIN IN MID SEASON FORM! If you have not been out to your favorite club or CLUBS to ride, now would be a GREAT TIME to TAKE A SICK DAY. OR TWO. Then spin off some mileage to make some classic memories that only you can do. Seriously. Isn’t that why we are here?

DOWNLOAD THE 2026 NYSSA SNOWMOBILE INTERACTIVE MAP! It has on it and available which trails are open, closed, and major hazards that are out there, where and when. It is a great gift for you to download to your iPhone or Android TODAY!
