The storm is over us. It will be getting gradually colder over the next 36-60 hours. Will it get cold enough to change rain to SNOW across the Adirondacks, especially above 1500′ to 2000′? It is still looking possible but it’s by a thread. It is literally by a borderline.
We had planned to put up the first of the 2025-26 snowfall accumulation maps today. Just to show a dusting to an inch or two locally over the Adirondack Park. And nowhere else in the state. It would be just too warm and too low. After careful consideration, we decided NOT to put up the first map. Yet.
It’s still late October and still most years, we deal with the elevations at this time of year. The higher up you are, the better. That is the way it works around here for snowfall. Most of the time.
The showers that are around Upstate NY now will continue through today, tonight, tomorrow, tomorrow night, Friday and last even until Friday night and possibly Saturday morning. By then the storm system and cold air aloft that would be causing all of this precipitation will be heading off to the north and east, leaving high pressure to build in from the west and give us at least partial sunshine. It would be in the 50s this weekend and into next week, 20s to 30s to start your day.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND
It looks quiet until after we get past day 7. Once we get into the “we are not so sure about this” forecast period, that is when the tables turn and when more rain and possible snows move in late next week and especially into the early part of the first week of November. Especially November 4th. It’s still the 22nd of October as of this writing. This is great stuff to write about… better than the 60s and 70s that we had the past several years. But all we can say is: TIME WILL TELL!
