These weather patterns come about most years in November. We are now officially back into the Doldrums. We are likely to be here probably for the rest of November. Once the calendar flips over into December, WATCH OUT! It could turn very cold and very stormy and snowy across Upstate NY! This would be just in time to get SNOWDEO off to a great start for the first time since 2018, and the overall season off to its best start since that specific year!
Yes. 2018. Seven years ago. Pre pandemic. My life was so different back then. I am sorry if I am reminiscing here, but I must for a moment. Just because the short term, medium term, and the long term forecasts all look a specific way. They have looked like this in many winters past, including some of our best winters. That is exactly why I am not worried.
SHORT TERM
A few day of clouds mixed with SUNSHINE! Not so much today but especially tomorrow and still some sun leftover on Thursday, particularly early in the day. With highs in the 40s over most of the state, with 30s up north, whatever snow is left across the ground will continue to melt, especially during the day. With overnight lows in the 20s, don’t worry about it. The snow, whatever is left, will freeze up.
MEDIUM TERM
This storm rolls through Friday during the day with rain showers. The European Model being shown here does not show a lot of rain coverage however many of the other models do. In any case just have the umbrellas handy on Friday in particular. After that the weekend and into early next week look dry with temperatures near to slightly above normal.
LONG TERM
We are looking above normal in the 6-10 and the 8-14 day but there has been a trend towards “normal” creeping in from the north and east. It is by far what I am seeing developing out over the Western US, then heading into the Plains, then progressing eastward that would change this relative warmth to cold. How cold? Below freezing nearly all the time cold. And with the storm track to the south, that means any storms that come up are much more likely, especially in December, to have SNOW
SNOWMOBILING IN DECEMBER
Snowdeo weekend is December 12 through the 14th. All of the northern trails are open by the 15th of December. All of the Southern Zone trails (per NYS DEC) are open January 1. Just keep these dates in mind as we get closer.
