Don’t mind the sunshine and temperatures in the 40s today. Don’t mind the rain with highs in the 40s to low 50s tomorrow. Don’t mind the several days of sunshine early next week. And definitely DO NOT MIND the warmth and the rain with widespread 40s and 50s heading into the middle of next week as you are rushing into your Thanksgiving traveling plans.
BECAUSE THE WORM TURNS. STARTING THANKSGIVING DAY. BLACK FRIDAY. THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. AND ESPECIALLY HEADING INTO THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT ALL THE METEOROLOGISTS HAVE BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT FOR SEVERAL DAYS TO NEARLY A WEEK NOW! WELL WE ARE FINALLY STARTING TO SEE THIS HAPPEN.
It has been since 2018 since we have seen a start to winter like this. 7 years. Man how much has changed for the family in that time. After several lean years, especially starts to these years, it looks like things are finally going to balance out.
Just not yet.

Now this is not today, tomorrow, or Saturday. This is Sunday. As of right now I had this day scheduled to be “partly sunny” but the reliable European says “hold your horses!” with this painted above Upstate NY. It’s not much of anything, and if anything it will melt before it has the chance to stick to anything. Just showing you what is here for Sunday.

Tuesday clouds take over and rain takes over the state spreading from west to east. By late afternoon and into the evening on Tuesday the 25th, you can count on a wet ride if Tuesday is your day to travel off for Thanksgiving. This is only an opinion and only based on the extreme amounts of traffic seen during this time of year especially. If you have to travel, especially more than 50 miles, and you have a choice to leave any day but Tuesday, it may be a good idea to have for now.
After this storm clears out of here on Wednesday, temperatures begin to cool on down. We start getting into the 30s for highs starting on Thanksgiving Day and especially beyond, while overnight lows go well below freezing. Yep. This upcoming Thanksgiving will not feel like ones from years past with all kinds of warmth around.

OK, now why am I showing this? Well since it is on Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend, which is 9 days away at this time, I figured it would be enough to at least take a look. Because it is there and it’s on the 00Z Euro from last night, 00Z Thursday 11/20. It will be interesting to see if this setup holds in the coming model runs. If it does, it means travel heading home for Thanksgiving Weekend could be a lot worse than getting there!
It also means it could be the start of the long term colder than normal pattern for December. Higher than normal snowfall. All of the stuff us snowmobilers are waiting for! It’s 5 weeks away, but one last thing: COULD WE RIDE CHRISTMAS DAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2017 ACROSS NORTHERN NEW YORK? I have no idea. All I know is it has been 8 years. And we are due. If it wasn’t for a Christmas Massacre of 2020, we would not have had to wait as long.
