Good Morning Upstate Snow Nation! Is there any better way than to say the day before Christmas Eve we have a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY OVER 1/2 OF THE STATE with most if not all areas that are able to ride as of right now (Northern Zone DEC) expected to have a WHITE CHRISTMAS! Even if your snow is minimal now, with the few inches at least you should get through tonight and not much else to melt it through Christmas Day, we think we can finally put that finally argument to bed. IT WILL BE A WHITE CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR! For many, the first since 2018. We know some have had White Christmases since then. Not everyone has been stoned out this long, but still, great to see everyone get in on this action this year!

This storm will move on through this afternoon, a clipper system, with snow and lower elevation mix to rain for a few hours time. For the most part, especially over 1000′, it will be all snow. This time! And we are so thankful for that as we are looking to rebuild the base from what started in November around here. Later tonight the storm continues to spit snow mainly east of I-81. That continues even after midnight, hence the reason for the higher accumulations where we have them on our snow map for today

Our next storm comes in the day after Christmas on Friday. As this storm has been approaching us and is near our high resolution models, it has gone from a warm storm (40s and rain) to a cold storm (20s and snow). Why? Well as we get within 5 days time (we are now 4 on this one), we can see more clearly and in higher resolution. Less chances for last minute changes, even though as you know, there can always be that, but this time we like the trends towards snow!

So now on Sunday the next storm is looking warmer with rain. This time. But trust us, THAT WILL NOT LAST LONG. Even if it hits the 40s or low 50s again and we get another thaw, it will end quickly with the big cold blast coming early next week. By Monday and Tuesday next week temperatures will not get out of the 20s and the lake effect will be roaring!

The 8-14 day is trending NORMAL heading beyond early next week. So expect that big cooldown to only be temporary, maybe a few days, before 30 to 32 degree weather becomes the norm again. No huge arctic outbreaks nearby. For now.
